Ablative materials are defined as polymer or resins with low thermal conductivity which pyrolize layer by layer when its surface is heated, leaving a heat-resisting layer of charred material which eventually breaks away to expose virgin material. Lewcott began the development of these exotic materials to give the rocket motor industry a high quality, cost effective source. The materials have been formulated to meet customer fabrication requirements as well as to focus on the demand for cost reductions. The utilization of native phenolic resins results in materials that are robust and exceed the requirements of the fabricator or prime contractor. Types of materials include graphite, carbon, rayon, spun broken low carbon content for rayon replacement, high silica content glass and E-glass. Our ablative materials are available in broad goods, molding compound, biased tapes and straight tapes. Areas of applications are: Ø Rocket Nozzles Ø Nose Tips Ø Internal motor case insulation Ø External motor case insulation Graphite Fabric Phenolic Material
Carbon Fiber/Fabric Phenolic Material
Silica Phenolic Material
Glass Phenolic Material
These materials are designed to meet and/or exceed the thermal and insulation, and structural requirements of the rocket propulsion industry. Note 1: This material meets specification MIL-P-25515C requirements for a glass-fiber based; low-pressure phenolic-resin laminated plastic material for applications such as airframe structural parts, including all airframe external plastic parts, and other applications. BG = Broad Good BT = Bias Tape MC = Molding Compound
