Capabilities

The Technology Group at Lewcott facilitates all product development activities within the company.  A skilled and experienced R&D staff working in a modern, well-equipped laboratory has the following capabilities:

  • Resin preparation and development

  • Substrate impregnation, B-staging and characterization

  • Laminate lay-up

  • Lab and pilot-plant scale lamination/molding (press and vacuum bag)

  • Product Testing ~ cross-sectional digital microscopy, cure analysis, mechanical test (ambient & elevated temperature)

The group supports the Composites, Filtration, Resins and Abrasive markets through the development of new technologies.  It also supports the on-going programs of these units.

Research Direction

The current development efforts of the Technology Group are focused primarily on Composites and Filtration.

Within the Composites arena, major R&D activities involve the development of state-of-the-art armor (body armor, land vehicle armor, combat & fire helmets), aerospace composites (aircraft interiors, missile cone ablatives, carbon/carbon materials, radome structural materials) and electronic materials (Stablcor® carbon fiber cored laminates for thermal management and structural rigidity).

Filtration product development efforts involve exciting new technologies with Homeland Security and military applications (Genesis Air technology for destroying chemical/biological warfare agents and technologies for Aerospace filtration systems (passenger compartment air filtration for next-generation airliners).
